Suzuki Violin and Guitar Workshop

The Suzuki Association of South Florida is hosting its annual Suzuki Violin and Guitar Workshop on April 18-19, 2015 at Broward College. The Association hosts this event annually to bring young violin and guitar students together from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties, as well as the Orlando, Naples, and Ft. Myers areas to give them the opportunity to experience being part of a larger community. Their common musical background and repertoire enables them to prepare musically outstanding performances in a short amount of time.

Students will work with world-class visiting clinicians – James Hutchins, violin, from the D.C. area, David Madsen, guitar - for a wonderful weekend of learning, music-making, and sharing in the common goals of the Suzuki method and philosophy. Students will have the opportunity to work with these master teachers to further develop technique and artistry, while making new friends throughout the Florida Suzuki community. The weekend’s events include optional individual Master Classes for violinists on Friday, April 17, 2015, and supplemental classes for everyone.

The Suzuki Association of South Florida is a non-profit organization that promotes the understanding and the use of the music teaching philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki for the greater happiness and development of children worldwide. The Suzuki approach encompasses much more than teaching a child how to play an instrument. It seeks to develop the whole child, to help unfold his natural potential to learn and become a good and happy person. The purpose of Suzuki training is not to produce great artists, but to help every child to find the joy that comes through music-making. Through the Suzuki growing process, children thrive in a total environment of support; they develop confidence and self-esteem, determination to try difficult things, self-discipline and concentration, a lasting enjoyment of music, and the sensitivity and skill for making music.
